My Photography Journey

The Beginning

I remember that moment - the one when my grandmother held a box in front of her and commanded me to “say cheese!” I was posed next to my grandfather. We both smiled as she clicked this button. Then a card emerged from the front of the box… and a few minutes later, I could see the image of Pap and me. It was amazing! How did this Polaroid thing work? And, how rad is it that now I can see what Pap and I looked like in that moment?!? (yes, rad - it was the 80’s)

This curiosity with images continued to develop throughout my childhood, while I also fell in love with music. When it came time for my Senior Photos, my mom selected an awesome photographer who learned who I was, featured my favorite guitar in the photos, and made images that I loved. This experience gave me an incredible sense of confidence! I loved my photos - and I still do. It was a great experience.

The College Years & A Little Beyond

Music education gave me amazing experiences - venturing further with travel, both domestic and abroad. My focus was music, but I was carrying a digital camera along the way. Venice to Vienna… the Northeast to the Southwest… Photography was documenting my journey. My camera was with me most of the time - or at least nearby. Eventually, the camera gave way to the camera featured in my cellphone. More subjects were available (my wife, my dogs, my kids, etc.) and so now I was taking a LOT of photos and posting them on social media…

A New Beginning

My mother-in-law, having seen the multitude of images I had been posting online, encouraged me to use my “well developed eye” and put it to use in a better camera. She helped me out a little in purchasing that Nikon d3200… and then my passion for photography really took off! I set my mind to education of optics, rules & composition, image study, and much more. I practiced daily - and I kept posting online.

Then came two requests. One was to complete a senior portrait session and the other for family portraits. I was eager to take on the challenge and met it! The images from these two shoots propelled my love of photography from a hobby to a part-time job - and Travis Leap Photography was born. For over eight years, I have worked with clients to create amazing art featuring their personalities, hobbies, and loves. Together, we make unbelievable images that stand the test of time, while having experiences and making memories that will never be forgotten!
